Power and Electrical Engineering

The Power and Electrical Engineering (under the research direction of Water Conservancy and Hydropower Power Engineering) was formerly known as the major of Electrical Equipment of Hydro-electric Power Station, which enrolled students from 1972 to 1982. The enrollment was then interrupted for more than 10 years. In 1996, the Water Conservancy and Hydropower Power Engineering was restored to enroll undergraduate students. According to the adjustment of the national undergraduate majors, it was renamed to be Thermal Energy and Power Engineering in 1998 and to be Power and Electrical Engineering in 2013.

The major of Power and Electrical Engineering aims at cultivating talents in the development and utilization of water energy, and has formed the characteristics of close integration of water, machine and electricity, and has a certain reputation in China. Professional characteristics are to hydro energy and water resources development and utilization as the main backbone system, students' knowledge and ability is mainly reflected in the force (learning), machinery (machinery), electricity (gas), control (system) four aspects, students by the thick foundation, wide caliber, strong practice, heavy damage new training and training, focusing on learning and mastering hydropower, pump station water supply, fluid transportation, hydraulic machinery and power equipment design, selection, supporting, commissioning, monitoring, operation, management and other aspects of the theory and technology.

Students of this major are trained according to the major category of water conservancy in the first academic year. According to the combination of grades and wishes, students can be transferred in the second semester of the first academic year. In the second academic year, students are trained according to the Power and Electrical Engineering. In the third and fourth academic years, through the setting of compulsory courses and two tandem professional module courses, students have a sound grasp of the necessary professional knowledge in the direction of water conservancy and hydropower power engineering. Further, through the professional comprehensive internship and graduation design, students will combine the knowledge they have learned with engineering practice, and their professional quality and ability will be improved and finally meet the graduation conditions.

Specialized key courses: Engineering Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics, Fundamentals of Electrical Technology, Fundamentals of Electronic Technology, Hydraulic Turbines, Turbine Regulation, Auxiliary Equipment for Hydraulic Units, Automation of Hydropower Stations, Electrical Parts of Power Plants, Pumps and Pumping Stations, Water Conservancy and Hydropower Planning, Safe and Economic Operation Management of Hydropower Stations.
